The last time Days of our Lives fans saw Gabi Hernandez, she was played by Camila Banus and was carted off to Statesville after being accused of killing Li Shin. Since then, both her husband, Stefan, and her brother Rafe have been moving hell and earth to prove her innocence and set her free.
They finally believe they have the evidence and the means to make that happen, so Gabi will return to the Salem scene in the form of actress Cherie Jimenez, who marks her first appearance as the popular character on June 27, according to Deadline.
DAYS teased Jimenez's casting in April with an Instagram post showing her with another new cast member in the Hernandez kitchen. The caption read: "We're seeing some newcomers in Salem! Meet Cherie Jimenez and Al Calderon - Hmmmm, who could they be?!?!"
While Calderon's character has yet to be revealed, speculation that Jimenez would play Gabi turned out to be correct. The actress' previous credits include the Lifetime movie Lost Girls, as well as its sequel, Maya. She also appeared on such shows as NCIS, Pretty Little Liars, and The Newsroom.
Banus played Gabi off and on from 2010 to 2023 and was written off before so Gabi could go to prison for killing Nick Fallon. Banus replaced Gabriela Rodriguez, who played the part briefly starting in 2009. Banus left the show of her own volition last year, prompting another Statesville stint for Gabi.
While there, Gabi was targeted by Clyde Weston and assaulted as a means to get Stefan to do Clyde's dirty work. Now we know that Clyde's henchman Gil was the one who killed Li because Li was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
When Gabi is finally free, how will she feel learning her husband "accidentally" cheated on her while she languished behind bars? Will this spell the end of "Stabi," or will Stefan get Gabi to forgive him?
