Another big dream has come true for General Hospital star Sofia Mattsson (Sasha Gilmore), who is thrilled to share that she's now a citizen of the United States.

Congratulations are in order for Sofia Mattsson (Sasha Gilmore, General Hospital), who announced that she has become a citizen of the United States of America.

The actress shared the exciting news via an Instagram photo that shows her outside the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services building holding her certificate and an American flag.

"So honored and proud to have become a U.S. Citizen today!" she wrote. "I'm so grateful to this country for all the opportunities I've been given and for helping me make my dreams come true!"

The Swedish actress began her career as a model but was inspired by her older sister, Helena, to leave their hometown of Stockholm and pursue an acting career in Los Angeles. Mattsson initially only landed Swedish and Russian characters due to her strong accent, so, she focused on developing an American accent in order to expand her opportunities. Her hard work paid off, and she now has a list of acting credits that includes films like Jurassic City, Jacked Up, and Unstrung, as well as series such as Campus Security and Two and a Half Men.

Mattsson landed the role of GH's Sasha in 2018, and she's taken the character through a rollercoaster of stories since that time, including a stint in which Sasha conned everyone into believing she was Nina's (Michelle Stafford/Cynthia Watros) daughter, a relationship with Michael (Chad Duell), and slipping into drug addiction. Most recently, Sasha had a baby with Brando (Johnny Wactor) who tragically passed away right after he was born.

Off-screen, Mattsson and her husband, Thomas Payton, were thrilled to welcome their first child, a son, who was born in July of 2021. The actress also partnered with her sister to launch a vegan leather handbag company called Ava Carrington, which she told Soap Central is one of her proudest accomplishments.
