Melrose Place, the popular Aaron Spelling nighttime soap, is about to get a brand-new lease on life.

Everything old is new again on TV, and that now includes Melrose Place, the hit 1990s drama that told the tale of a group of 20-somethings living in an apartment complex on Melrose Place in Los Angeles. The Aaron Spelling production ran from 1992 to 1999. Now, Deadline reports that the soap is getting a reboot that will take place years after the 1999 version ended.

This is the second time that Melrose Place will get a second chance on the airwaves, but a 2009 sequel was canceled after just one season due to low ratings. This 2020s version is currently in development at CBS but has yet to be officially picked up by any networks or streaming platforms.

Former cast members Heather Locklear, Laura Leighton, and Daphne Zuniga are set to headline the cast, reprising their characters after a friend suddenly dies. Written by Insatiable's Lauren Gussis, the friends gather to say goodbye to the deceased, but drama soon ensues as secrets come to light with some renewed romances on the agenda.

The 1990s series was also a backdrop to a real-life soap opera when former The Bold and the Beautiful star Hunter Tylo was hired for the show but quickly fired when she became pregnant. Tylo sued Aaron Spelling Productions for discrimination and won nearly $5 million as a settlement.

The original was a spinoff of Beverly Hills 90210. The updated Melrose Place is produced by Gussis, along with Leighton and Zuniga. Other well-known stars from the original series include Marcia Cross, Lisa Rinna, Alyssa Milano, and Courtney Thorne Smith. There's no word on whether other stars from the old Melrose Place will appear in the new reboot.
