Daytime fans who also love true crime are in for a treat. The Young and the Restless alum Donny Boaz (ex-Chance Chancellor) shares that he will be appearing in The Staircase, an HBO series about the mysterious death of Kathleen Peterson.

Chance Chancellor is rumored to be heading back to The Young and the Restless later this year, but what about his former portrayer, Donny Boaz? The CBS soap hasn't hinted anything about the actor's return to Genoa City but -- as chance would have it -- Boaz is on his way back to television!

The actor took to Instagram with the message, "I booked a few episodes on the upcoming HBO series 'The Staircase,' based on the documentary of the same name about the author, Michael Peterson, and the death of his wife, Kathleen Peterson. 20 years later, we still don't know the truth about what happened."

HBO Max's version of The Staircase is an eight-episode mini-series that will delve into the tstory of author Michael Peterson and his wife, Kathleen Peterson, who died in 2001. Michael claimed she drunkenly fell down the stairs at their home, but police suspected that he bludgeoned her to death and staged the scene to look like an accident. Michael was convicted of Kathleen's murder in 2003, but after eight years, he was granted a new trial, and in 2017, he submitted a new plea to the reduced charge of manslaughter. At that point, he was sentenced to time already served and was freed.

Colin Firth has been cast to play Michael Peterson, while Toni Collette will play Kathleen Peterson. Other cast members include Juliette Binoche, Sophie Turner, Rosemarie DeWitt, Patrick Schwarzenegger, and Parker Posey.

"Great cast," Boaz enthuses. "Happy to be a part of this project. Great week of work."

The docuseries of the same name was originally released in 2004, with creator Jean-Xavier de Lestrade updating with new information years later. Netflix released it as a thirteen-episode series in 2018.

Donny Boaz joined Y&R in 2019 but was written off of the CBS soap opera in January of this year. Some of his other credits include Graceland, Dallas, Six, NCIS: New Orleans, P-Valley, and All American.
