Antonio and Sheridan got the plans in order for their marriage ceremony. Antonio could tell that his bride-to-be was less than thrilled about the plans. He was sure it was the details that had Sheridan looking so down. He felt that Sheridan did not feel comfortable with the elopement. He told her not to worry about his family. He promised that they would have a big wedding soon and invite all of Harmony if she wanted to. He told her that the elopement was just for them because he could not wait to make her his wife.

As Whitney told Theresa it was Chad who had called off their relationship, he walked into Theresa's office and called Whitney a liar. He told Theresa that Whitney had chosen her father's dream over their love. Whitney followed Chad out of the office and wanted to try to talk things out.

Liz and Luis worried about Sheridan and Antonio's whereabouts. They asked Beth to try to look up on the Internet the inn that the couple had gone to. Beth tried to hide her irritation. She did her best to stall them as they did their detective work. They tracked the couple to the restaurant, and the hostess told Luis over the phone that they had gone down to Pelican Harbor to get married. Luis dropped the phone and told both Liz and Beth that he had to stop the wedding.

The jewelry store owner remembered Ethan from when he'd bought Theresa's engagement ring. She could not believe that he was there, wanting to buy a ring for another woman. She did her best to try talking him out of it. Ethan got a little angry with the saleswoman as she almost refused to sell him an engagement ring for another woman.

Ethan then went to Theresa's office. He said he had some things to move and took off his jacket. Theresa found the engagement ring and felt sure that it was for her. She flashed back to the promise she'd made to "Little Ethan." She'd promised the baby that Ethan would be his dad, and she felt it was finally going to happen.

Liz, Luis, and Beth entered the wedding chapel as a couple was pronounced man and wife.

Ivy and David met once again to plan their next step in ruining Sam and Grace's marriage. Ivy wanted David to fill out the annulment papers the way she suggested so that the annulment could be halted. David had an attack of conscience. He regretted hurting Grace by trying to break up her marriage. He refused once again to help Ivy and wanted out of their deal.

Ivy got down and dirty. She said that all she lived for was to get Sam back. She reminded David that she would do whatever it took. She did not care if she had to lie, cheat, steal, or, God help her, even kill if it came to that. She told David that she would have no qualms about ruining his life and his son's life if David chose not to cooperate.

David went to see Grace with the annulment papers. Sam guessed that David had signed the papers, saying that he still loved Grace. Sam got angry and punched David. Grace yelled at Sam. Sam worried that Grace was happy with her vision of her life with David. Grace turned the tables and asked Sam if he loved his vision of his life with Ivy.

Theresa told Whitney that she had found an engagement ring in Ethan's pocket, and soon they would be married. Whitney got hurt and angry. She asked Theresa what made her so sure the ring was for her, since it was Gwen who Ethan slept with every night. She also told her friend to get her head out of the clouds and be there for her, since she was always there for Theresa. Theresa told Whitney not to worry. She knew that Chad would have a change of heart, and they would be together.

Chad started to help Ethan move his things out of Crane Industries. Ethan tried to talk Chad out of throwing his relationship with Whitney away. Chad said that Whitney was the one who had done that. Chad went to the elevator. Since it was running too slowly, he decided not to wait.

The maintenance worker at Crane Industries inspected the elevator and saw that the cables were frayed to the point of being deadly. He called one of his coworkers to make out of order signs and put them up immediately. Unfortunately, Whitney got on the elevator before the signs could be posted.

Luis walked in on a wedding. Luckily, it was not Sheridan and Antonio's. He was livid, and Antonio thought it was because of the elopement. Antonio was glad to see Liz, and they went for a walk, giving Luis and Sheridan time to talk. Sheridan calmed Luis down, telling him she had no choice but to go along with Antonio. He realized that she was right and told Sheridan it was not like she'd actually signed a marriage license or anything.

At that moment, Beth pushed Antonio and Sheridan's marriage license to the floor for Luis to find. When he saw Sheridan's signature, he got angry all over again.

Sheridan and Luis had it out over her impending marriage to his brother. Luis felt that Antonio was strong enough to handle the truth. Sheridan feared that the truth would kill Antonio. She did not want that dark cloud hovering over her relationship with Luis. Luis did not understand how she could marry his brother when she claimed to love him with all of her heart. Sheridan said she had to marry Antonio to save his life. Beth was standing in the background, and she smiled when she heard Sheridan's confession.

Liz and Antonio had a talk. Liz could see how happy Antonio was. He then had a dizzy spell. Liz looked worried, but Antonio assured her that the spells were really nothing, he had been checked out at the hospital, and they'd found nothing wrong with him. Liz toyed with the idea of telling Antonio the truth herself, but his dizzy spell put an end to that. Antonio looked at Liz and told her that she did not realize how happy he was that she was there. He called her his very best friend. Liz's eyes filled with tears as she hugged Antonio.

Sam beat David up. Eve and T.C. walked in, and T.C. tried to stop Sam, who had gone completely over the edge. Sam screamed out that David had deliberately sabotaged the annulment by claiming to still be in love with Grace. Eve and Grace looked over the annulment papers and saw that Sam was wrong. David lied for Grace's sake. He claimed not to still be in love with her so she could get the annulment. Sam apologized and went out with T.C. for some air.

Father Lonigan arrived. He told everyone that the annulment wouldn't take long. He just needed to read over the papers and have both parties swear under oath. Grace begged David to tell the truth. She told him not to lie under oath to God. David broke down and confessed that he loved her. Sam was speechless.

Whitney and Julian were trapped in the deadly elevator. The cable snapped, and the elevator was sent rocking. Julian attempted to call Theresa for help. They got cut off when the elevator car started to sway. He reconnected with Theresa. She did not take his pleas for help seriously until she heard Whitney scream and realized her friend was in danger too. She rushed to the elevator with Ethan and Chad. Chad was blaming the whole mess on himself. The maintenance man told the trio that no one should be in the elevator because the situation was deadly. Theresa began to panic.

Tabitha and Cracked Connie watched the residents of Harmony as they went through their hardships on a big-screen TV in Tabby's living room. They saw Whitney and Julian trapped in the death elevator. Their lives literately hung by a frayed thread. Whitney seemed to be falling apart. She was worried and sure they were going to die. Julian tried to reassure Whitney. He told her that they were going to make it. He said Eve would never forgive him if he let anything happen to her daughter.

Julian was kind to Whitney, and she seemed to be less afraid for a while. She told Julian that she had some regrets. She told Julian that because of her father, she had let go of someone she loved. Julian thought back to how he'd lost Eve because of his father. Julian begged Whitney not to listen to her father but follow her heart.

Roy the maintenance man told Ethan and Chad that he could go down the shaft on a rope to free Julian and Whitney. Ethan said that he would go because he'd been an expert rock climber in college. They all warned Ethan to stay away from the wires in the shaft because he could get electrocuted. Theresa kissed Ethan for good luck.

Sam was angry over the annulment being stalled. He turned on Grace. Sam told Grace that she had pressed David into confessing his love for her because she had feelings for him. Sam asked Grace to tell him from her heart that she did not feel any love for David.

Luis did his best to talk Antonio out of the elopement. Antonio did not listen. He suggested a double wedding and asked Luis to marry Beth. Sheridan looked worriedly at Luis.

Ethan had an accident in the elevator shaft. The cables started to give way. Electric sparks started flying, and Ethan's rope caught fire and broke apart. Ethan fell unconscious in the elevator shaft. Theresa and Chad screamed his name, but he did not respond.

Sheridan and Antonio's wedding started. When the justice of the peace asked if anyone objected, Luis stood up and said, "I do!"

Friday, September 11, 2002

Tabitha and Cracked Connie made popcorn and sat by the big-screen TV as they watched Ethan almost fall to his death. Sparks kept falling on top of Ethan. Chad said that they had to get more help. Inside the elevator, Julian stayed calm and never gave up the hope of being rescued. He did his best to bolster Whitney's spirits. She seemed genuinely grateful for his concern.

Whitney asked Julian about the woman he'd loved and lost because of his father. Julian told Whitney that his lost love was a wonderful singer. Whitney told Julian that she sang too. She told him that Chad thought she had real talent. She told Julian that her mother never sung and would hate Whitney to even think about singing as a career. Julian felt guilty at hearing it.

Grace admitted to Sam that she did have feelings for David. She asked how she could not. Grace reminded Sam that she and David had a son together. When Grace said that, Eve looked guiltily at David. She told T.C. that she was going to get Grace a mild sedative, and he was to try to get Sam to calm down.

Outside the Bennett home, Eve saw Ivy snooping around and listening by the window. She was livid at the sight and said that she was going to wheel Ivy inside and put an end to the charade. Ivy warned Eve that she would blow the whistle on her and tell her precious friend Grace that John's DNA test results had been faked. Eve took Ivy into the Bennett home for a confession.

Ivy was saved by the ring of the telephone. Theresa called Sam and told him about the accident at Crane Industries. Sam told Ivy and the others about the accident and that Ethan might have been electrocuted. Ivy immediately blamed Ethan's condition on Theresa.

Luis' attempt at stopping the wedding failed. The couple were about to say their I do's when Liz passed out. After being checked over, they concluded that she had acute appendicitis. They stopped the wedding and rushed Liz to Harmony Hospital.

Whitney almost succumbed to Julian's kindness until she remembered what Julian had done to Theresa and her father. She told him that she could not ever forgive him. The elevator lurched and began to fall. Whitney and Julian grabbed onto each other for support.
